September 05, 2017- San Juan National High School Celebrated Her 47th Foundation Day

The 47th Foundation day of San Juan National High School with the theme “Forging Partnerships to serve and educate” was celebrated last September 4 and 5, 2017. The school had a Thanksgiving Mass last Sept. 5, 2017 at 8 in the morning celebrated by our dear parish priest, Msgr. Nestor C. Cerbo. The principal of SJNHS, Mrs. Lucila G. Artuyo together with the other school’s officers, department heads, master teachers, teachers, staff and all employees were present. Before the Holy Mass, Mr. Melchor Odi gave welcome remarks about the dreams and aspirations of the institution as well as the reasons for the celebration of San Juan National High School.

Before giving the homily, Msgr. Nestor C. Cerbo acknowledged the presence of San Juan National High School’s officers, staff, head teachers, faculty and all employees which started by mentioning the names of Mrs. Lucila G. Artuyo, the school principal and Mr. Reynaldo Laurio as the assistant principal. He congratulated and greeted them a “Happy 47th Foundation Day”.

The Gospel for the day was from Luke 4:31-37 “A Man with an Evil Spirit”. Msgr. Nestor pointed out that our Lord Jesus and the devil have three differences. First, through the words of the devil, it was very clear that he is self-centered with selfish desires, because he always uses the word “us”. On the other hand, Jesus would always think of the welfare of others. Then, the evil spirit always wants to possess and control man while Jesus desires freedom for man. Lastly, the devil wants to inflict harm on us whereas Jesus does not like harm for man. Msgr. Nestor said that if we always think of ourselves, when we want to control and harm others, we are like the devil. Likewise, if we desire the good welfare of others, giving them freedom and avoiding harm to our neighbours, we are like our Lord Jesus imitating his goodness in dealing with others.

Msgr. Nestor also said that as a family, we thank God for continuously blessing us because he helps us to think of others first especially the students before ourselves. We should try our best not to control and harm others to maintain peace and harmony inside the school campus. He told everyone to imitate Jesus so that they may be able to teach with authority, wisdom and power. He reminded us “ Nasa Diyos ang awa, nasa tao ang gawa.”

Before the final blessing, Mrs. Lucila G. Artuyo thanked Msgr. Nestor C. Cerbo for celebrating the Holy Mass. She also thanked the choir, the catechists, all the department heads and teachers, the staff and employees. She addressed that “you are the wind beneath my wings” which means that with the love, care and support of everybody, she could not be able to perform well as a principal of the school. In the spirit of humility, she also asked for forgiveness for being angry and impatient at times. She said that as a principal of SJNHS, she is like a mother who always wants to take good care of the welfare of everybody. She reminded that everyone should be Christ-centered in order to be able to serve and educate the students faithfully. Then she gladly greeted everybody a Happy 47th Foundation day.

“There is only one secure foundation: a genuine, deep relationship with Jesus Christ, which will carry you through any and all turmoil. No matter what storms are raging all around, you’ll stand firm if you stand on His love.”— Charles Stanley
